Work begins on Rogier tunnel maintenance

20:50 03/03/2019

The Rogier tunnel in central Brussels will be closed every night from today until mid-June for major maintenance and repair work.

The closure applies in both directions until 16 June, from 22.00 to 6.00.

The next phase of the work, from mid-June to September, will see half of the tunnel closed 24/7, with the other half carrying two-way traffic.

Work is being carried out to install new side panelling, apply a new layer of concrete to the ceiling and strengthen the central wall separating the two carriageways

The Rogier tunnel has had to close several times in recent months because of ventilation problems. A more substantial renovation of the tunnel is due to begin in 2023.
