Wedding processions: Brussels police fine 28 drivers in one day

22:24 02/04/2018

Police in central Brussels are taking action against noisy and dangerous wedding motorcades - and have urged wedding parties to "celebrate the big day with respect".

On Sunday alone, officers in the Brussels-Ixelles police zone pulled over six wedding processions and issued fines for dangerous driving. Police were first called out to a wedding party blocking Rue Notre Dame du Sommeil with their cars.

"Two of the wedding convoys were fine - we just gave them a reminder of what was and wasn't acceptable," said police spokesman Olivier Slosse. "But the other four processions were breaking the law and we issued 28 fines."

The crackdown on wedding motorcades comes after a video emerged last month of a wedding party driving dangerously on the A12 near Brussels, before bringing the motorway to a standstill, getting out of their cars and throwing the groom into the air. Their actions were condemned by Flemish mobility minister Ben Weyts as "disgusting, selfish and mortally dangerous".

In many countries the police would literally use their weapons on people like these, why do they think they can do it here ?
