Two injured in another shooting in Anderlecht's Cureghem district
Two people have been injured, one critically, in the latest in a series of shootings in the Cureghem neighbourhood of Anderlecht.
According to Sudinfo, seven shots were fired at a home on the Rue de la Clinique at about 2.30 on Thursday morning, targeting two residents.
One of the victims was shot in the lower leg. The other victim is in a critical condition after being shot in the shoulder.
Violent incidents have been common around Clemenceau metro station in recent months, as part of a turf war between rival drugs gangs.
It is not yet clear whether this latest shooting is connected to the previous drugs-related violence.
The public prosecutor's office has begun an investigation.
According to reports, Anderlecht mayor Fabrice Cumps has confirmed that two suspects have been identified and arrested.
Cureghem and Peterbos in Anderlecht in particular have been the site of recent drug-related gun violence.
In February, one person died after shots were fired outside Clemenceau metro station and another was killed following a shooting in the Peterbos neighbourhood.
The recent violence has prompted the mayors of Anderlecht, Forest and Saint-Gilles to call for federal police reinforcements in the area.
