One in three Belgians unable to save money

10:57 27/03/2017

A third of Belgians had no spare money to put into a savings account over the past 12 months, according to the study 'To save, or not to save?', conducted by Radio 1 in cooperation with Wikifin.be and De Tijd. They surveyed 1,000 Belgians aged between 25 and 74.

The results, which were plugged into a graph to show the savings patterns by age category, reveal that 67% of those surveyed were able to save in the last 12 months. They put aside an average of €326 per month.

In the group of 25- to 34-year-olds, about 80% managed to save, compared to 60% of 35- to 44-year-olds and just 50% of the respondents over 65.

The survey also reveals that 72% of homeowners are able to save on a monthly basis, compared to only 55% of those who do not own property. One in three Belgians does not save at all, according to the study.
