Drones used to monitor Belgium's busiest port

Belgium relies on drone technology to help monitor the Port of Antwerp, Europe's second-largest seaport, defence minister Steven Vandeput revealed on Sunday during a Belgian television programme. According to Vandeput, maintaining the security of strategic locations across the country during the elevated terror threat level is an enormous task for the military.

Vandeput therefore decided to deploy a fleet of drones, as the unmanned aircraft are an efficient way to save manpower. "Instead of just dropping 140 people at the Port of Antwerp, we are approaching it in an intelligent way, through the use of drones. They can provide detailed images of an extensive area," he said.
