Cycle lane coming to final stretch of E40 in Evere

18:11 01/07/2020

Preparation work has begun on a new stretch of cycle path along the E40 as it enters Brussels from the east. The path itself should be ready by the end of next week.

The two-way path is temporary, part of the region’s plan to create 40 kilometres of cycle lanes during the corona crisis. The idea is to encourage people who began cycling over the last few months to continue to do so.

The path will run on the inbound side of the E40 for 1.7 kilometres between the motorway entrance on Avenue des Communautés and the exit at Rue Colonel Bourg, which is part of Schaerbeek. Last year the rightmost lane of this stretch of motorway was abandoned, which means there is space to create the cycle path.

The two-way lane will be separated from traffic by cement blocks. Works will be carried out next week at night to avoid disrupting traffic.
