Complaints about taxi drivers shoot ever up

15:36 10/01/2018

People in Brussels are complaining about taxi drivers more than ever before, according to figures released by the region’s mobility department. Last year, 465 complaints were reported to the department, 11% more than the year before.

The figure follows an upward trend: In 2016, a whopping 25% more complaints came in than in 2015. Many complaints have to do with impolite behaviour and verbal aggression, followed by inflated fares.

The number one complaint, though, is dangerous driving – a complaint lodged by both taxi patrons and other road users. Aggressive driving was good for 150 of the 465 total complaints.

Brussels Mobility emphasises that the number of complaints is  quite low considering how many taxi rides take place every day in the capital. But the department does encourage anyone with a complaint to file it online or via email. The agency has the authority to alter services and regulations if required.
