Brussels youth unemployment at lowest level in 25 years
The youth unemployment rate in the Brussels-Capital Region has fallen for the 39th consecutive month in August and is now at its lowest level in 25 years. Still, 24.9% of young people in Brussels are without a job, writes VRT Nieuws.
In late August this year there were 10,140 job seekers under the age of 25 in the Region, the lowest number in the last 25 months of August. "Youth unemployment has been at its lowest level in a quarter century for several months now," confirms Marc Njeim, spokesman for Brussels employment agency Actiris. “But we have been waiting to communicate about it in order to exclude the seasonal effect.”
Despite the prolonged decline in the unemployment rate among young people, still nearly 25% of the Brussels youth were looking for a job as of August, 2016 (compared to 26.2% in the same month last year).
