450,000 tourists head to the coast over Pentecost weekend

09:54 10/06/2014

The changeable weather did not deter tourists flooding to the Belgian coast over the Pentecost weekend, claimed Franky De Block of the West Flanders tourism province, Westtoer. Some 450,000 tourists are estimated to have headed to the seaside to relax. According to De Block, hotels in the area were 95% to 100% full and camping sites, 70% to 80% full. “Increasingly people are opting to stay in a hotel,” he added. Sunbathers were rather less satisfied as sunshine was only intermittent.

“We may have lost a few tourists on one day. But it was an excellent weekend which confirmed the return of tourism. The coast remains a favourite destination with all, particularly with families and children,” said De Block.
