World Cup: Red Devils acquire new fans via BelgiumizeMe

With most of Belgium now behind them, the Red Devils launched an online tool to help recruit foreign fans to their side. BelgiumizeMe invites non-Belgians to cheer on Belgium’s national team in the World Cup as real Belgians by giving them the opportunity to acquire a real Belgian name. A Spanish fan thus who types in his name into BelgiumizeMe as Manuel Garcia can henceforward support Belgium as ‘Maurice Goffin’ or an American called Tim Howard can cheer as ‘Timo Huysmans’.

BelgiumizeMe was launched via the Red Devils' Twitter account and reached out to an estimated 8.7 million Twitter users on its first day.
