Terrorists also targeted prime minister Michel

13:56 30/03/2016

The terrorists who committed the attacks at Brussels Airport and the Maelbeek metro station last week were also possibly planning to attack the office and home of Belgium's prime minister Charles Michel, write De Tijd and L'Echo.

Prior to the attacks, the terrorists searched for information about the prime minister's office at Rue de la Loi 16 (pictured)and his official residence in Rue Lambermont, according to data recovered from a computer found in a trash can in Rue Max Roos in Schaerbeek. The terrorists looked up the building plans, as well as photographs of the buildings taken from the street.

Prime minister Michel's office underwent a security upgrade at the end of last year, and additional security measures are now in effect at both locations.

As expected, the security of the president upgraded...
but the one in the subway and airport did not...
It is clear what the president and government wanted to protect...
