Storm on the way, staying indoors recommended

17:16 06/02/2020

A storm front will move through Belgium at the weekend, bringing with it winds of up to 100kph. While storm ‘Ciara’ will be largely over by the early hours of Monday morning, strong winds will continue into next week.

Friday will see mild and pleasant weather, with even a bit of sun, but things will start to change on Saturday, according to meteorologist Frank Deboosere. “Storm Ciara will hit the country on Sunday, with extreme south-westerly winds,” he said, “including wind squalls of potentially 100 kilometres per hour and pouring rain.”

Winds of that speed can blow roofing off buildings and knock over trees, so Deboosere suggests that people stay indoors as much as possible.

Weekend temperatures, however, will be warm for the time of year, with 11°C forecast for Brussels on Saturday and 13°C on Sunday.

Wind gusts and squalls will remain until next Wednesday. Heavy rains are also expected on Monday and Tuesday, letting up a bit by Wednesday.
