Stolen Egyptian statue found in Belgium
A piece of the 2011 Egyptian revolution has found its way to Belgium. An ancient statue stolen from the Egyptian Museum during the uprising against Hosni Mubarak has been recovered after being spotted by an expert.
Dating back 2500 years, the piece was allegedly smuggled into Belgium where it found its way into the hands of a French expert who alerted Egyptian authorities after analysing it.
This comes as good news for the museum, as the piece recovered in Belgium is only one part of the relic, with the other half still safely locked away in Egypt.
Stolen ancient artifacts have become common since the uprising due to lapses in security in museums and ancient sites.
Recently, Egypt discovered a slew of stolen artifacts at an auction in Jerusalem.
