STIB to maintain ticket prices

11:25 14/11/2014

Brussels public transport operator (bus, tram and metro) STIB will not raise its prices in 2015, reports Knack.be. STIB will be largely spared from the planned budget cuts announced by the Brussels government. “Investments can be made to the Brussels public transport network without raising the rates,” says mobility minister Pascal Smet (SP.A).

The Brussels government decided on Thursday to keep the bus, tram and metro rates generally stable in 2015. "We won’t change the price of a regular ticket or subscription," confirms Smet. “Children, students, pensioners, employees and those on social welfare will pay no more in 2015 for public transport than in 2014."

The ticket prices for tourists, on the other hand, will go up slightly in price, but can also be used to get to Brussels Airport, for example.

I wonder how much money could be saved by having ONE publicly subsidised transport company for tiny little Belgium?
