Stib expects severe disruption during 12 March strike
Brussels public transport operator Stib expects serious disruption to the metro, tram and bus network in the capital during a strike on Thursday 12 March.
Stib said it was "making every effort to ensure at least part of the service on that day and will inform its passengers in real time about the situation on the network".
At the same time, it is encouraging passengers to look for alternative solutions for their journeys in Brussels on that day, if possible.
On 12 March, trade unions are organising a demonstration in the capital against the federal government’s socio-economic reforms, which they saw will erode social progress and weaken the social safety net.
The ABVV, ACV and ACLVB trade unions are calling on their members to take part in the national day of action.
In addition to service disruption due to Stib staff participating in the action, the passage of the demonstration through the capital will also cause local disruption on some lines.
“The exact extent of the disruption cannot be predicted at this stage. Stib therefore advises its passengers to find alternative solutions for their journeys in Brussels on that day, as far as possible,” the company said.
As soon as more information is available about which lines will still be running, Stib will communicate this on its website, app, information screens, Facebook and the company's WhatsApp channel.
The customer care service will be available on Thursday 12 March from 6:00 to answer questions asked via social media (Facebook and Instagram), and also by telephone on 02 563 89 17.
“Floya, Stib’s multimobility app, will suggest alternative routes based on the lines that are running,” the company said.
“It also offers the possibility of finding an alternative route using other transport options such as taxis, shared bicycles, scooters and cars.”
