Stib to encourage more buskers to play live music in Brussels metro
More live music is coming to Brussels metro stations under an updated initiative from public transport operator Stib.
While the programme that allows for musicians to busk in metro stations has existed for some time, digitalisation of the application process and a more thoughtful design of performance spaces is expected to increase the number of artists participating.
“We’re hoping to create a new dynamic with lots of artists performing in our metro stations because we believe that it contributes to a more pleasant customer experience if they can catch a bit of a performance during their journey,” Stib spokeswoman Alizée Debruyne told Bruzz.
“We’ve also decided that artists who are interested in playing on the network can submit their application by scanning a QR code.”
The aim is to make it easier for musicians to apply and have their applications processed, though traditional paper applications will also continue to be accepted.
Colourful stickers on the floor now designate a musician’s performance area and banners also help draw the attention of travellers.
“Public transport is, of course, primarily intended to facilitate mobility and transport people,” said Stib spokesman Laurent Vermeersch.
“However, we also strive to make the time people spend on public transport as pleasant as possible. We also do that with artwork in the metro, but music can also contribute.”

It's the contrary that should be done ! Travel should be quiet and not subjected to noise one does not ask for.
