Sterling Books begins half-price clearance ahead of February closure

21:18 02/01/2021

Brussels' independent English-language bookstore, Sterling Books, has announced it will shut down next month after 23 years.

The popular shop, on Rue du Fossé aux Loups near De Brouckère, has begun selling all of its merchandise at half price to clear stock.

In a post on its Facebook page, Sterling Books said "absent another solution", the store would close on 7 February. It thanked customers for their "loyalty and friendship over all these years".

"Although our sales have been strong over the last few months, a difficult year including the spring lockdown and the cancellation of the Antwerp Bookfair has led our owners to make the decision to close our doors," Sterling Books said.

"Needless to say, we're enormously saddened by this turn of events. The support of our customers has been incredible, this year more than ever, and we know how much the shop means to so many people."
