New book ‘Best of Belgium: The Complete Travel Guide Through Expat Eyes’

15:42 15/04/2026

It might be small but Belgium is brimming with heritage sites, museums, nature spots and cultural activities.

Now Brussels-based American-Belgian journalist and travel writer Angela Dansby has compiled an insiders’ guide that covers every corner of the country.

Best of Belgium: The Complete Travel Guide Through Expat Eyes is a handy paperback guide for tourists and locals who would like to explore destinations on their doorstep.

Divided by region and province, the easy-to-navigate book offers a wealth of detailed information for 32 cities and towns spread around the three regions, as well as 60 places boasting interesting attractions.

From medieval architecture, ancient castles and world-class museums to contemporary arts and a host of Unesco-recognised sites and traditions, the guide is a tribute to Belgium’s endlessly fascinating heritage and traditions.

Documenting each place with both her pen and her lens, Dansby (pictured above) comments: “Compact yet remarkably diverse, Belgium rewards curiosity with layers of history, culture and unexpected destinations.”

The seasoned traveller also came to an unexpected conclusion after completing her marathon journey. “Having walked nearly 1,000 kilometres across every Belgian region and province while researching for my travel guide, I made a surprising discovery: even many Belgians underestimate what their country offers,” she reveals.

It was in 2015 that Dansby first arrived in Belgium for what she thought would be a year-long work stint. Like many other expats before and since, the charms and quirkiness of Belgium soon convinced her to make it her permanent home.

Now a dual Belgian national, Dansby sees this book as part of an ongoing mission to convince the uninitiated why Belgium deserves a place on every explorer’s European itinerary.

Best of Belgium: The Complete Travel Guide Through Expat Eyes by Angela Dansby is Published by Borgerhoff & Lamberigts. It is available at Waterstones and Filigranes in Brussels and other bookstores around the country.
