Speed check marathon on Wednesday

15:12 20/04/2021

Motorists should keep a sharp eye on their speedometers on Wednesday: Federal and local police are collaborating to carry out a 24-hour speed check marathon. The more-or-less regular event finds police officers concentrated on monitoring driving speeds on Belgium’s motorways and regional roads.

The marathon begins at 6.00 tomorrow and goes until the same time on Thursday. The idea is to make drivers aware of speed limits and convince them to pay close attention to how fast they are driving on their regular routes to work or elsewhere.

The last marathon speed check took place in October and led to more than 35,400 speeding fines. More than 330 people checked had their driving licenses temporarily revoked.

Why not EVERY day?
Initial revenue stream but in the longer term the speeders will be educated or banned.
