Self-proclaimed 'independent journalist' Fayçal Cheffou released

Fayçal Cheffou has been released after an investigation following his arrest last week on suspicion of terrorist activity, reports the federal prosecutor. "The evidence that led to his arrest could not be confirmed by the investigation," reads the statement.

The 30-year-old Cheffou was recently interviewed by VTM News after he stood in as a reporter and mediator for the refugees staying in the tent camp in Brussels' Maximilian Park late last year. It is now believed he was in the park to recruit refugees to his extremist cause, accusations that could not be confirmed by the investigation.
