Seatbelt checkpoint pays off in Brussels

12:22 27/08/2013

In a large-scale check on the use of seat belts and child seats in cars in the Brussels Region last Saturday between 10.00 and 18.00, police noted 732 cases of people using at least one of the two incorrectly. The checkpoint took place at 15 locations across the city and involved about 100 police officers and the support of the federal police. The officers caught 310 people, including both drivers and passengers, not wearing a seat belt. In 20 cars, the child seat was not being used, or was being used incorrectly. An additional 29 drivers who were using their mobile phones upon arrival at the checkpoint tried to escape by driving down one-way streets, often in the wrong direction.
