School in Woluwe sends pupils home because of blocked toilets

10:45 26/09/2025

Don Bosco College in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert had to close its doors for two days this week due to a problem with its toilet drainage system.

A specialist company has been tasked with replacing a general drainage pipe that was completely blocked over a length of nearly 20 metres. The school was able to resume classes on Thursday.

“Given the worsening situation with the toilet drainage, the school unfortunately had to be closed on Tuesday [and Wednesday] due to circumstances beyond our control,” the school announced.

“The minimum sanitary conditions are no longer met to accommodate the 1,100 people on site in building A.”

School officials kept parents informed via the Smartschool platform regarding the reopening of the school.

The problem currently only affects the part of the building housing secondary school pupils and not primary school pupils, but the entire school was evacuated due to strong odours.

Temporary toilets have been installed on site and a reception area was organised for pupils who could not remain at home during the closure, for example because their parents must work.
