Schaerbeek offers couples chance to get married for free on Valentine’s Day

17:08 10/01/2023

Valentine’s Day will offer a special opportunity for couples in Schaerbeek who wish to tie the knot, reports Bruzz.

The wedding hall that usually holds ceremonies only on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, will open its doors on Tuesday 14 February, thanks to an exception introduced by the municipality.

The first five couples who register through the registry office or email address burgerlijkestand@1030.be, can get married for free on Valentine’s Day.

Wedding ceremonies in Schaerbeek are normally free on Wednesdays, cost €35 on Fridays and €250 on Saturdays.

Alderman Quentin van den Hove will arrange an appropriate wedding ceremony for each couple in attendance. The event, however, only applies to couples living in Schaerbeek.

As with all wedding procedures in the municipality, couples must file a declaration of marriage with the civil registry department at least 15 days before the ceremony. If one of the couple isn’t registered in Belgium, then the declaration must be submitted at least 30 days in advance.
