11:30 09/01/2015

The highest concentration of cafes and restaurants in Brussels are located in the municipalities Saint-Josse-ten-Node and Saint-Gilles, writes brusselnieuws.be based on a report by La Dernière Heure.

The newspaper reports that, according to statistics from trade agency Atrium, there are 4,045 restaurants and cafes throughout the Brussels-Capital Region. The figures take into account hotels, restaurants and cafés, while excluding snack bars, chip shops and other fast food outlets.

In terms of sheer numbers, the highest number of cafes and restaurants are found in the centre of Brussels (1,204), Ixelles (485) and Schaerbeek (362). But when looking at the number of food establishments per square kilometre, Saint-Josse and Saint-Gilles are the frontrunners. The two municipalities may be Brussels’ smallest, but they are also its most densely populated.
