Rue Neuve shopkeepers vote to drop Sunday opening
After City2 shopping mall in Brussels, now the shopkeepers in Rue Neuve have also decided to no longer hold Sunday openings, they reported in a press release, writes De Standaard.
An evaluation of the result of opening every first Sunday of the month since May last year convinced the shopkeepers that there is "insufficient turnover", which "does not cover labour costs." Moreover, the Sunday openings caused a decrease in sales on Saturday. They concluded that instead of an increase in consumption, the sales were spread over two days but with additional costs, such as paying personnel to work on a Sunday.
The shopkeepers have therefore voted against Sunday openings, with the Rue Neuve shops opening for one last time this Sunday.
