Renovation of Brussels Central metro station to start next year

12:56 10/03/2015

Brussels Intermunicipal Transport Company (Stib) has announced it will start renovation works on the metro station under Brussels’ Central Station at the beginning of next year. The project will take two to three years to complete, and will cost about €25 million, reports Le Soir. The metro station at Brussels Central is one of the Stib’s busiest stations, with 375,000 passengers a month.

The renovation will particularly focus on improving passenger comfort, including lighting and acoustics. Stib will also widen the platforms, allowing space for a few shops.

The works are expected to start at the beginning of 2016, however the metro will remain accessible to the public throughout the entire renovation period.

The €25 million invoice for the project will go to Brussels Mobility and Beliris, a consultation committee of the federal government and the Brussels-Capital Region.
