Record turnout for Brussels 20km
A record 45,330 people crossed the finish line of the Brussels 20km, according to the race’s organisers.
The 44th edition of the running event took place on Sunday.
“For each of the participants, the race was a personal challenge and a great story,” the organisers said.
“Runners and walkers covered 20km of the capital's most beautiful thoroughfares, with a host of supporters along the way. The weather was changeable, but always conducive to great performances.”
Alex Kibet finished first in the men’s category with a time of 59 minutes and 57 seconds, followed by Aleksander Tekleweld and Solomon Belayneh.
For the women’s category, Sophie Hardy finished first with a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 56 seconds, followed by Amélie Saussez and Amélie Bihain.
Robby Heyligen took first in the disabled category with a time of 42 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by Luc Capart and Pierre Hibo.
The Red Cross treated about 400 people, mostly for minor ailments.
The 45th edition will take place on Sunday 25 May 2025 at 10.00.
