Panic in plane after two failed landings at Brussels Airport

11:12 08/07/2013
Panic broke out among some of the Belgian passengers on a Boeing 757-200 flight yesterday at Brussels Airport in Zaventem. The pilot had to abort the landing twice due to a problem with the landing gear, according to the on-board computer.

The fully booked flight arrived from Marrakech (Morocco) around noon on Sunday with mostly customers of Thomas Cook. They testify how the plane almost touched the tarmac on two occasions, only to suddenly speed up again and shoot into the air at a very sharp angle. The passengers were prepared for an emergency landing, writes Het Laatste Nieuws; Bigger men took over the exit seats, people cried and one woman reportedly fainted. Brussels Airport and Thomas Cook claim they followed normal procedure when faced with a warning signal that the landing gear was not properly set, threatening to collapse upon landing. The control tower, however, confirmed that everything was in place during a visual check, and the plane was finally able to land safely.
