One in seven trucks too dangerous for the road

09:29 20/08/2014

One in seven trucks on Belgian roads are not in state to drive and should be removed from the road, write De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad, based on figures from the Federal Public Service Mobility.

Last year, FPS Mobility stopped 9,500 trucks at random for a thorough technical inspection. About 14% of the trucks were found to have dangerous defects, including bad brakes, worn tires or broken headlights or turn signals.

One out of every three drivers checked was Belgian, while the rest were foreign. Danny Smagghe of Belgian Motoring Organisation Touring is concerned about the results: "Especially in a compact country like Belgium, where the roads are overcrowded, it is more essential than ever that all vehicles be in good condition."
