One in five Brussels residents looking for work

11:19 20/10/2014

About one-fifth of the population of Brussels is made up of unemployed job-seekers. Among young people, that number is as high as one-third, according to The Brussels Observatory for Health and Social Welfare’s annual report on unemployment and income in the European capital. The report shows that about 20.4% of the working-age population of Brussels (between 18 and 64 years old) is looking for work.

The report also offers insight into the large differences between the Brussels municipalities: the unemployment rate is highest in Saint-Josse/Sint-Joost and Molenbeek-Saint-Jean/Sint-Jans-Molenbeek (29.1%), and lowest in Auderghem/Oudergem and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre/Sint-Pieters-Woluwe (9.8%).
