Not all municipalities are pleased with food trucks

09:23 12/05/2014

Food trucks are the latest culinary hype. The first ever Brussels Food Truck Festival this past weekend was a success with nearly 40 food trucks parked between Central Station and the Cathedral offering a diverse range of dishes and foods from all over the world.

The mobile eateries are an ideal springboard for budding entrepreneurs, says Unizo, organisation for the self-employed. But some communes consider them unwanted competition for the established restaurants.

“Each municipality should have its own fixed set of rules for the new food trucks, such as only allowing them to set up in one designated area and for a fixed period of time," suggests Anton Van Assche of Unizo. So far only the city of Brussels has official regulations for the food trucks.
