Bewogen festival in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert: Migrant fundraiser and community get-together

16:14 25/08/2022

Cultural festival Bewogen aims to raise money for migrants while fostering ties in the local community on 10 September.

The event is centred on art, music, food and people. It seeks to create small-scale encounters among refugees, local businesses, volunteers, artists and newcomers as well as long-standing residents.

On the programme is an exhibition of artists’ work, which will be auctioned at the end of the day. A concert will be performed by the choir ‘Les Voix des Garennes’ - a capella songs coming from oral tradition, and protest songs. Food and drinks are also available.

Organisers issued this appeal to the community: “Please come and meet us, the local artists and residents – grab a bite, enjoy the music, browse the artwork and help a good cause!”

Supporting the festival is Espace Diwan, a local NGO that helps migrants in Brussels. It offers emergency accommodation and support in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, alongside other activities such as legal assistance and language classes.

With the help of volunteers and local businesses, as well as assistance from the municipality, it manages a house where migrants find space to rest, eat, process their situation and, most importantly, feel safe.

Diwan also organises events and debates to raise awareness of the global migration situation. It’s always looking for help of all kinds and enthusiastically welcomes volunteers and donations. More information here.
