21:45 10/09/2018

A 25-year-old woman in Uccle accused of posting an online message calling for an attack on the Belgian football squad's World Cup homecoming party has been charged with inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist group.

La Dernière Heure newspaper reports that Yousra Bouhaltit Soulaïmane was arrested in August for the post on the Telegram encrypted messaging app.

The message was posted on the day that 40,000 fans lined the streets of the Brussels to cheer the Red Devils, who had flown home from Moscow after reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup and finishing third. The Grand-Place was at full capacity, with 8,000 fans present.

"We must make these disbelievers pay," the message read, accompanied by a photo of the footballers.

The suspect had been on the state security watchlist after she spent a year in Syria in 2015, La Dernière Heure reports.
