Kylie Minogue and Hooverphonic to play reopened Cirque Royal

11:05 24/07/2018

Kylie Minogue is among the performers who will play the reopened Cirque Royal this autumn, after a year of safety upgrades at the central Brussels venue.

The first concert scheduled at the new-look Cirque Royal is Hooverphonic on 22 September. Kylie will bring her Golden tour to the concert hall on 8 November.

Concert organiser Live Nation is gradually filling the Cirque Royal agenda again, with other confirmed artists including Seasick Steve on 23 November and Icelandic producer Ólafur Arnalds on 24 February next year.

The Cirque Royal was shut down last August for €3.6 million of emergency renovations to make the building meet fire safety standards, after an inspection revealed the concert hall was in a dangerous state.

When the venue reopens in September, it will initially be managed by the City of Brussels property department. The city has put out a tender for applications to manage the premises in the long term.

The Botanique not-for-profit assocation lost the concession to run the venue in June 2017. The City of Brussels had planned to reaward the management contract to Brussels Expo, but this was blocked by the Council of State after Botanique and Antwerp's Sportpaleis complained of a conflict of interest.
