Stromae’s Alors On Danse reaches one billion plays on Spotify

Stromae’s 2010 hit song "Alors On Danse" has reached a new milestone with one billion streams on Spotify.

This makes the Brussels-based artist only the second artist with a French-language track to join the streaming service’s "Billions Club".

Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson is the other artist, who made the list in 2024 with "Je te laisserai des mots".

That piano track, also from 16 years ago, achieved fresh renown via TikTok, where it proved popular.

There are approximately 1,300 tracks that have reached the billion-streams milestone on Spotify.

Two other Belgian artists feature on the list: the singer Gotye with the track "Somebody That I Used to Know" (2.5 billion streams) and the DJ Lost Frequencies with his tracks "Where Are You Now" (1.75 billion) and "Are You with Me" (1.4 billion).

Stromae’s "Alors On Danse" was released on his debut album "Cheese". The track, with a danceable beat but melancholic lyrics, became an instant hit in Belgium and also topped the European charts.

Kanye West and Charli xcx produced covers, and Stromae’s own label, Mosaert, also released a remix.

Songs such as "Papaoutai" and "Ma meilleure ennemie" also continue to perform well on streaming platforms. "Ma meilleure ennemie’" was the most-streamed French-language track worldwide in 2025, excluding French-speaking markets, on Spotify.

Earlier this year, Stromae was named by Spotify as the most-streamed French-speaking artist in non-French-speaking countries.

Stromae also performs well on other platforms. In 2023, "Papaoutai" helped him become the second artist (after Indila) to surpass one billion views on YouTube with a French-language song.

After several years away from the spotlight, Stromae returned to the forefront with his single "Santé" in 2021, ahead of the release of the track "L’Enfer" and the album "Multitude", which features both tracks, in 2022.

The artist then embarked on a tour, which came to an end after a few months in March 2023 for health reasons.

Stromae has kept a low profile since then, appearing on a few tracks, such as Madonna’s ‘My Sins Are My Saviour’ from the American singer’s latest album, released this year.
