Win tickets to Belgium Cello Society’s new season opening concert on 5 September

The Belgium Cello Society (BCS) is launching its 2025-2026 season with an opening recital by cellist David Cohen accompanied by pianist Anna Fedorova at Flagey on 5 September.

Their varied programme includes Schnittke’s ‘Suite in the Old Style’ (arr. David Cohen), Richard Strauss’s ‘Cello sonata in F major, Op.6’, Shostakovich’s ‘Cello sonata in D minor, Op.40’ and Shchedrin’s ‘In the style of Albéniz’.

The upcoming season encompasses five concerts that offer a journey through the rich and varied repertoire of the cello, while bringing together world-class cellists and distinguished pianists in intimate settings across Brussels.

As well as Cohen, who is the principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, musicians include other international names such as Anne Gastinel, Bruno Delepelaire, 2017 Queen Elisabeth International Cello Competition laureate Ivan Karizna and second prize winner of the 2020 Buchet International Cello Competition Pierre Fontenelle.

Continuing its mission to present great works of the cello repertoire alongside lesser known pieces, the BCS season features works from Beethoven to Boulanger and Fauré to Ginastera. The aim is to stage powerful performances that reflect the instrument’s expressive depth and versatility.

As well as the iconic setting of Flagey, recitals take place in other Ixelles venues, Théâtre Mercelis and Chapelle de Boondael, as well as La Tricoterie in Saint-Gilles.

Tickets for the two concerts at Flagey can be reserved online via the venue’s own ticketing platform, while the other three concerts can be reserved via the BCS online website.
