No political or ideological signs allowed at Tomorrowland

12:50 24/07/2013

Local authorities have decided to ban the wearing of political or ideological signs at the Tomorrowland festival, De Morgen reports. A total of 180,000 festivalgoers from 200 countries  are heading for the electronic festival, which begins in two days’ time. The preventive measure was taken “to ensure safety and to avoid any incident”, the authorities said. Items such as religious crosses, rainbow flags and Che Guevara T-shirts won’t be allowed on the site, the authorities of Rumst and Boom have decided. Opposition parties were quick to condemn what they called a violation of freedom of expression. "We understand such a move for T-shirts inciting to hatred or racism, but there are already laws against it," said one member of the opposition. The organisers themselves claim to be “surprised” by the measures. At the 2010 edition of the festival, clashes erupted between rival football supporters.
