Night train from Brussels to Vienna from next January

20:40 06/10/2019

An overnight train service from Brussels to Vienna is set to launch in the new year, Austria's state railway operator ÖBB has revealed.

The firm's chairman, Andreas Matthä, made the announcement in an interview with an Austrian daily newspaper on Saturday.

On the same day, ÖBB posted a photo of the Atomium on its Facebook page, alongside the message: "Welcome Brussels."

No further details have been made available at this stage - such as the timetable, route and ticket prices. The service is expected to begin in January.

The Austrian rail operator already runs night trains to destinations in Germany, Switzerland and Italy - and has plans to launch a new route to Trieste, north-east Italy, in 2021.
