Never before so many moonlighters in Belgium

11:56 09/01/2015

In the first three quarters of 2014, a record number of Belgians held a second job, as many as 197,000 compared with 184,000 in the entire year 2013, according to figures from the Federal Public Service Economy, reports De Morgen.

The number of Belgians with a side job increased considerably in the first three quarters of 2014 to 197,000, or about 4.4% of the total workforce. Ten years ago this number was 156,500, and in ten years the number is expected to increase by more than a quarter.

The figures show that the majority of the moonlighters are highly educated men.

A second job? Why on earth do the unions allow this! One job per person!

I also have to have a second job. A lot of the people I work with, all educated people, also have second jobs. If you are employed by the state, you don't make enough to live on. It isn't just teachers, it is also social workers, fiscal assistants, caseworkers, etc. These people are educated and have years and years of experience also. I know.
