Mouse caught on camera in Panos store in Antwerp

10:11 18/10/2022

A scampering mouse enjoyed his moment of Facebook fame when he was caught on video in a Panos outlet in Antwerp last Saturday, reports Le Soir.

The video prompted some funny comments on Le Soir’s Facebook page, “a mouse in town, whaaaaat?” and “well they’re hungry like the rest of us I guess”.

Others were quick to criticise the company: “I guess it’s time to close for an inspection. Although I find it strange since the boss already mentioned the regular and strict hygiene inspections.”

The store in question is located in Nationalestraat in Antwerp, according to Het Nieuwsblad. The Flemish media also noted that this wasn’t the first time the rodent was seen frequenting the popular food outlet.

Multiple mice were spotted at the start of May in another Panos in Berchem station. The situation sparked numerous questions on hygiene to which spokeswoman of La Lorraine, owner of Panos, defended the chain’s position by mentioning its “strict hygiene policy” and regular “inspections”. “It isn’t the first time that we’ve experienced this sort of situation in a food chain located in a station. Where food is present, mice are never too far.”
