More trees and cobblestones for Rue de Midi

12:12 30/10/2015

The Brussels Consultation Committee has approved plans for the reconstruction of Brussels' Rue de Midi, between Place Rouppe and Rue des Pierres. Remarkably, the City approved the incorporation of flat cobbles and the addition of more trees than originally planned.

The restructuring of Rue de Midi is part of the district contract Rouppe, which saw Rue de Midi largely incorporated into the pedestrian zone at the end of June, writes brusselnieuws.be. The street will be modelled after Rue des Fripiers, which is an extension of Rue de Midi that was pedestrianised in 2012.

Like Rue des Fripiers, Rue de Midi is to be resurfaced with flat cobbles, and street and pavement brought to the same level. The street will also get 21 trees instead of its current nine.

The aim is to make Rue de Midi a connection between South Station and the Grand Place for cyclists and pedestrians.
