Minimum wage in Belgium to rise above €2,000 a month
Belgium’s minimum wage will rise to €2,000 a month gross on 1 April, resulting in a pay increase for some 80,000 workers in the country.
The increase in the minimum wage was ratified during negotiations on the interprofessional agreement.
A first increase of €76.28 was applied on 1 April 2022 and a second increase of €35.70 was scheduled for the following year. A third increase, of the same amount, will be applied in April 2024 and bring the minimum wage to €2029.88 gross - the amount before taxes are deducted - per month.
The taxable employment bonus will also be increased on 1 April, bringing the real increase to €50 net (the amount after taxes).
Under this measure, the minimum wage will have risen by around €400 net between October 2020 and June 2024, including automatic indexation, according to minister for employment Pierre-Yves Dermagne (PS).
This will be the first time the minimum wage in Belgium passes the €2,000 gross mark, according to the ACV-CSC union.
