Man questioned for insulting prime minister Michel on Facebook
A 20-year-old man from Liège was summoned by the federal police to explain himself for negative comments made on Facebook about Belgium's prime minister Charles Michel. The detectives are tasked with investigating all potential threats against the prime minister, reports RTBF.
The man reacted to an article posted on Facebook last summer about the increase in value-added tax (VAT) on electricity, saying: "You should be ashamed. This will cost you, arsehole”, or the original French version, "Honte à toi. Tu vas nous le payer, trou de cul".
The seemingly harmless comment was taken seriously by the police inspectors, who summoned the young man to their headquarters in Brussels for questioning. While the man admitted to writing the offending comments, he defended himself by saying, “Prime minister Michel is driving this country into the ground; It's not normal anymore what he's doing.”
"I'm unemployed,” he continued. “So it's normal that I reacted like this. It may have been a bit exaggerated, but I certainly had no intention to hurt him," he said in a statement.
After the interrogation, the police took the man's photograph and fingerprints, and said that they will now look at all the evidence at hand before deciding whether to pursue the case.

Scary implications if the police actually take action for words expressing disapproval of Michel. Think of all the truly dangerous individuals the police simply ignore or question and immediately release.
