Madame Moustache club up for sale
Brussels' famous Madame Moustache nightclub on the Fishmarket near Place Sainte-Catherine has been put up for sale.
The vintage dance hall distinguishes itself in part by playing older music, swing, soul, R&B, funk and disco, forgoing electronic music or techno because “there was already enough boom-boom-boom in Brussels”.
Madame Moustache has been operating in the centre of Brussels for more than 15 years, but the venue has been facing financial difficulties since a major fire destroyed almost all of the interior in 2022.
The total damage was estimated at €650,000. The roof, plumbing, electricity, heating and ventilation, and the sound and lighting systems all had to be replaced, and the owners never fully recovered from the blow.
Court-supervised reorganisation proceedings were initiated earlier this year as a safeguard against creditors to avoid bankruptcy.
Manager Maud Partouche reported at the time that a crowdfunding campaign had also been launched and that she was applying for a grant.
It now appears that the business is being sold after all, according to a listing on the website of hospitality estate agents Sorgeloose & Trice.
The business itself is up for sale, but a price has not yet been disclosed. The owner of the site is the Alken-Maes brewery and the rent amounts to €9,716 per month.
The premises are in a highly attractive location and can accommodate about 330 visitors. The business also holds a rare environmental licence allowing it to remain open throughout the night.
