La Bottega serves up Belgium’s best pizza, says La Une
La Bottega della Pizza in Brussels serves the best pizza in Belgium. So says public broadcaster RTBF.
RTBF channel La Une went in search of the perfect pizza in the two-part programme La meilleure Pizza. Julien Serri of the celebrated Magnà Street Food in Paris, chef Giovanni Bruno of Senzanome restaurant in the Sablon and Italian food columnist Raffaela Palanga, who lives in Brussels, were the judges.
Preliminary research saw them whittling down their list to 10 finalists in Wallonia and Brussels, who they judged in the programme. The final four finalists were brought to Grand-Hornu to undergo pizza-making tests to jog them out of their comfort zone.
Chef Roberto Casula of La Bottega ultimately emerged as the winner. Not surprisingly, he is Italian. He opened the pizzeria in 2010 on Avenue Ducpétiaux in Saint-Gilles. The restaurant has won other awards, including being named Belgium’s best pizzeria by the culinary yearbook Foodprint in 2013.
