King Philippe of Belgium takes over as Red Devils' coach in amusing video

09:22 17/11/2022

Roberto Martinez, current manager of Belgium’s national football team, is momentarily replaced by the King of Belgium during a short video posted by the Red Devils on YouTube.

The video appeared on social media this week just days before the start of the Qatar World Cup on Sunday. Filming wrapped up last week in the Royal Palace before final scenes were shot in Stade Luberton in Tubize, the team’s training ground.

It is the first time that the King has appeared in a comedy sketch, although other European royals may have set a precedent. Notably, the late Queen Elizabeth II met Paddington for afternoon tea in Buckingham Palace during her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are set to kick off their World Cup against Canada on 23 November at 20.00 before facing Morocco on 27 November at 14.00, and playing their final group stage match against Croatia on 1 December at 16.00.
