Job creation in Belgium at lowest level in 10 years

10:31 27/10/2014

Belgian employers find it increasingly difficult to expand their workforce. The number of new jobs in Belgium has reached its lowest level in a decade, reports De Standaard, based on figures from DynaM, a project that charts the dynamics of the Belgian labour market.

The figures, which take into account Belgium’s nearly 4 million employees and do not include the self-employed, show that 166,000 new jobs were created in the past 12 months. That is one-third less than just before the start of the crisis period in 2008, when employers created nearly 250,000 new jobs.

I know people running small businesses in Belgium where expansion is impossible and employing anybody (legitimately, not in the black) is just a dream. This problem infests the whole of the EU to one extent or another. Of course, should you reduce unemployment, make it easier to employ and your economy does well as a result, expect the EU to stab you in the back with a massive "tax" bill that will hand votes by the thousands to your political opponents.
