Jeu de Balle parking opponents celebrate victory

10:54 27/02/2015

Plateform Marolles, the driving force behind the protest against a new underground parking lot in Brussels’ Marolles neighbourhood, is organizing a week of festivities to celebrate the scrapping of the plans. From 14 to 21 March, concerts, film screenings, readings, art exhibitions and a ball will take place on the square.

The festive week was originally intended as a protest against the City of Brussels’ plans for a new parking lot under the historic Jeu de Balle. Now that the City has decided to scrap those plans in light of massive protest, the celebrations will take on another tone, in honour of the anniversary of the square’s famous daily flea market which has been around since 15 March, 1873.
