Hundreds protest in Brussels against invasion of Syria

11:45 29/08/2013

Opponents of a military intervention in Syria gathered in front of the old Stock Exchange building in Brussels yesterday. There were 250 protesters present, according to the organisation Intal, while police report about a hundred. "All together for peace in Syria," shouted the protesters. Many of them are worried about the uncertain outcome of such a military intervention by the US, the UK and France. "Who knows, maybe this gas attack was the act of an extremist group that wants to provoke a raid in Syria," said one of the protesters. Brussels philosopher Lieven De Cauter was also present, showing his support for a political rather than a military solution. "As a human and humanist, I have to draw the line at the use of chemical weapons. But international law must also be taken into consideration," said De Cauter. He recommends waiting for the official report from the experts on the use of chemical weapons before taking action.
