Humus x Hortense named among best vegetable restaurants in the world

Humus x Hortense, a vegetable-based restaurant located near Place Flagey in Ixelles, has been placed within the top 10 of a world ranking of vegetable restaurants at the We're Smart Awards 2025.

The Michelin-starred restaurant specialises in creative natural vegan dishes using botanical research conducted by co-founder Nicolas Decloedt.

The zero-waste menu includes cuisine-inspired cocktails and botanical mocktails created by Caroline Baerten, while the ingredients are sourced by local wild farmer and botanist Dries Delanote.

The annual We're Smart Awards pick out establishments that prioritise fruits and vegetables in their cuisine. Chefs are awarded scores based on their creativity and the percentage of plant-based ingredients used.

Alongside Humus x Hortense, Restaurant Vrijmoed in Ghent earned fifth place in the rankings, while in Brussels, Entropy on Place Saint-Géry and Menssa in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre were also commended.
